The PA Quarter Horse Association (PQHA) presents awards to the horses owned by PQHA members, which earn the most points in halter and performance classes according to the PQHA Annual Awards System. Awards will be given to first thru fifth place in all classes. To be eligible, current membership dues must be received by the Home Office. Membership will begin with the postmark date unless postmark is illegible, in which case three days will be subtracted from the date of receipt and that date used as the postmark.

Nominations
Points will be awarded to nominated horses owned by members of PQHA competing in Pennsylvania shows approved by AQHA and PQHA. There is a nomination fee of $15 per horse/rider combination in all divisions, except leadline, Small Fry (walk/trot), and AQHA open registered classes. There will be no nomination fee for Leadline, the Small Fry (walk/trot) fee will be $15 per rider per year, and the AQHA open registered division will be $15 per horse per year. Small Fry (walk/trot) and Leadline nominees must be members of PQHA, either through a family membership or an individual junior membership, but do not have to belong to PQHYA. Youth activity members must belong to both PQHA and PQHYA. No points will count until both the membership and the nomination fees have been paid. It is the member's responsibility to insure membership. Only points earned at PQHA approved shows will count. Nominations must be postmarked prior to the date of the show which is to be counted. Nominations postmarked on the date of a particular show will not be counted for that show but all subsequent shows will count. If the points chairman cannot read the postmark, three days will be subtracted from the date of receipt and that date used as the postmark. When time is short, it is advisable to have the post office hand cancel the envelope. For OPEN SHOW nominations, see separate Open Show Rules.

Accumulation of Points for Year-End Awards
Points earned for year-end awards will be based on the highest 30 placings to count for year-end awards. You may participate in any or all of the PQHA approved shows; your highest point placings for one class may be different shows than your highest placings in another class, if you have points from more than 30 shows. Note: A second place out of 5 (4 PQHA points) is higher point placing than a first out of 3 (3 PQHA points). Attention Youth: This does NOT apply to PQHA Congress Team or PQHA World Team points.

Points awarded to a horse will count only during time of owner's membership in PQHA, and only after nomination fee is received by the points chairman. Transfer of ownership will not affect accumulated points of same horse in the AQHA open division, provided new owner is a PQHA member and point chairman is notified of the transfer. Points are accumulated on the horse (regardless of exhibitor) in AQHA open registered classes; on the exhibitor (regardless of horse) in the Leadline and Walk-Trot (Small Fry) classes; and on a horse and rider combination for all other classes. In order to receive a PQHA award in any class, the horse or exhibitor must have at least 15 points (PQHA) in the class. The minimum point requirement will be waived for the leadline class. Awards will be presented to the top five horses or exhibitors in each AQHA approved class, provided there are five horses qualified.

NOTE: To be eligible for year-end awards, you must show at least one day of a PQHA sponsored Quarter Horse Show (AQHA classed on May 22&23, 2010, July 14-18, 2010 and Aug 12-15, 2010 tentative). (This excludes Open Show exhibitors). Exhibitors showing in classes offered at approved shows, but not offered at a PQHA sponsored Quarter Horse Show must still show at least one day at a PQHA sponsored show in order to receive awards in classes that are offered at approved shows. All classes offered at approved shows will be pointed by PQHA even though those classes are not held at a PQHA sponsored horse show.

In the HALTER Division, there will be a Grand and Reserve Champion award in each sex division. Each show Halter Champion will receive 1 point more than any other horse in the sex division at that show, and each Reserve Champion will receive at least as many points as any horse in the sex division at that show. These additional points will be added to the class points (maximum of 9 points will be earned by Grand Champion on one class at one show).

In order to be eligible for PQHA All-Around Awards (All-Around Horse, Youth, Amateur), an entry must have earned points in at least three categories as outlined by AQHA. High-Point Novice Youth, Novice Amateur Awards, and Amateur Select are based on cumulative points for each nominated horse in each class. Two places will be awarded. In the event of a tie in the final points accumulated for any placing, the tie-breaker will be the highest average points earned per show. Exhibitors must submit a nomination request and pay a $5 nomination fee to be eligible for year end All-Around and year end High Point Awards. In calculating the Amateur Select high point award, the following guidelines will be followed:

* All Amateur Select classes are included in the Amateur Select High Point award calculation.

* The Amateur Select classes are not added into the All Around award for the Amateur Division.

* Only the Amateur Select classes are used to calculate the Amateur Select High Point placings for the year.

The Small Fry Walk-Trot equitation, pleasure, and showmanship classes will be open to any child 11 years or under riding a registered Quarter Horse mare or gelding, English or Western. Leadline age will be 6 and under. These exhibitors are not eligible to compete in any other registered class or youth activity riding event.

The cutoff date for any adjustment in point standings for shows through July 31 of the current year will be October 1 of that year. For shows following July 31, the cutoff date will be November 10. After these dates the point secretary's figures will be considered official.
